This volunteer project in Buenos Aires is a humanitarian organization that tries to fight poverty and improve the daily lives of vulnerable people in Argentina. The organization is involved in a variety of projects throughout the Buenos Aires city and province, ranging from soup kitchens, community centers, dwelling homes and day care centers for children to day care centers for elderly people. The organization is based in the neighborhood Ciudadela, just outside the city of Buenos Aires, but you will be involved in the different projects in and outside Buenos Aires.
The volunteer will perform daily physical revision on the elderly and report to the doctor if any illness symptoms occur.
You will administer medicines according to medical instructions and prescriptions, as well as practice healing procedures and provide emergency medical care in the absence of the doctor.
Volunteers will also assist and support the seniors in their daily activities.
You will help the patients of the home with their personal hygiene, assist the nurses in bathing them and helping them with eating and getting dressed.
Moreover, volunteers will be taking and recording routine vital signs and daily measure the dimensions of the body.
Working for this medical volunteer project in Argentina, you will also provide support in the seniors’ activities program, as well as occupational therapy, rehabilitation and recreational activities.
It is important that volunteers have graduated in, or are currently studying nursing.
Additionally you are supposed to have knowledge of elderly problems. It is important to have a proactive attitude, be communicative, be easygoing with interpersonal relationships, and show respect to other cultures. It is also important that volunteers are polite and patient with the patients, and work clean and tidy. Lastly, volunteers have to be interested and enthusiastic to help the people in this project.
